The summer months are fantastic for discovering new design talent, as a fresh crop of graduates are unleashed at exhibitions across the UK. This year our London office took part in judging at D&AD New Blood Festival and explored New Designers.
New Designers is a great source of inspiration, featuring over 3,000 graduates all presenting exciting new ideas and innovations in design.
We headed over to the show, which took place at the Business Design Centre, to explore new talent and catch up with the soon-to-be design graduates.
A highlight for our Senior 3D Designer Simon Newbegin was seeing the work Geno Sharp, who we had the pleasure of previously having as an intern in our London office.
Gino’s work spawned from the big idea of products that age beautifully, creating a strong emotional connection with the user. His display featured a quality stationary set, where the leather of the messenger bag gradually patinas in the form of patterns where interaction with the user has occurred. He also produced a portable speaker using long lasting materials – wood, leather and concrete – that age beautifully over time and allow it to be used both outdoors and indoors.
Overall, New Designers is a fantastic show for capturing work across an extremely varied range of disciplines, from illustration to product design to animation.
In the same week, we paid a visit to D&AD’s New Blood Festival, where Senior Designer Ben Dolman had the tremendous task of judging the best students on show…
