We’re very excited to announce we’re sponsoring Team Essence, a five-man crew who are attempting to break the transatlantic rowing record. To put into perspective what an amazing feat this is, more people have been to space or climbed Mount Everest than have completed this challenge! But the most amazing thing is their ambition to raise £250,000 for the much-loved children’s charity the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children).
Team Essence will set off from Lagos, Portugal and row to the tip of Venezuela, before moving onto the Port of Spain in Trinidad & Tobago. This is one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges, covering a staggering distance of 6127km, with over 50 days of rowing. Each rower will take to the oars for three hours, followed by a two hour break, then back to rowing for three hours, repeating this 3/2 pattern 24 hours a day until the challenge is complete.
Taking part are Jason Fox, star of Channel 4’s “SAS Who Dares Wins”, adventurer Aldo Kane, Crossfit athlete Ross Johnson, stockbroker Oliver Bailey and founder of Acorn Homes for Children, Matthew Bennett.
”NSPCC is a charity that’s extremely close to my heart”, says Matthew. “They are often the first point of contact for children suffering from abuse or neglect, which is why we hope to raise as much money as we can. These funds will enable the NSPCC to continue the vital role they play, ensuring every child has a happy and safe childhood.”
